The Toyota Tacoma is the best-selling midsize pickup in America — legendary for going anywhere and lasting forever. But the factory halogen headlights are one of its weakest points: dim, yellowish, and barely adequate on dark trails or unlit highways.
Simple upgrade — both the low and high beam on 2016–2023 Tacoma use the same physical bulb base (H11/H9). You just need two pairs of H11 LED bulbs to cover both positions. The fogs use H11 too.
2024+ Tacoma (4th gen): factory LED across every trim. Not bulb-replaceable.

Configuration A — 2016–2019 Toyota Tacoma (All Halogen Trims)
Who this fits: SR, SR5, TRD Sport, TRD Off-Road, TRD Pro, Limited — every 2016–2019 Tacoma shipped with halogen headlights.
Identifier: 3rd gen original. The Tacoma uses H9 for high beam (not 9005). H9 shares the same physical base as H11, so our V7S/Coast H11 bulbs fit both the H11 low beam AND the H9 high beam socket — you just need two pairs of H11.
| Position | Bulb Size |
|---|---|
| Low Beam | H11 |
| High Beam | H9 (same base as H11 — H11 LED fits) |
| Fog Light | H11 (same as low beam) |
Fog lights also use H11 — add another pair of V7S/Coast H11 to upgrade them too. The H9 high beam uses the same physical base as H11, so a single H11 LED product covers both positions.

Identifier: 3rd gen refresh. TRD Off-Road picked up factory LED from 2020 onwards; the TRD Sport stayed halogen all the way through 2023. Bulb sizes unchanged from 2016–2019.
| Position | Bulb Size |
|---|---|
| Low Beam | H11 |
| High Beam | H9 (same base as H11 — H11 LED fits) |

| Summit (Premium) | Coast (Value) | |
|---|---|---|
| Lumens | 10,000LM/pair | 5,000LM/pair |
| Power | 50W/bulb | 23W/bulb |

| Body | 71mm × 24.3mm | 63mm × 30mm (1:1 halogen) |
| Best for | Towing, off-road, dark rural roads | Daily driver, city, budget-friendly |
Our recommendation: If you tow, haul, or drive on unlit roads regularly — go with the V7S. For a clean, reliable daily-driver upgrade, the V4S is the smart choice.
How to Install LED Headlights on a Toyota Tacoma
No mechanic needed. No tools required. The Tacoma has good engine bay access to the back of the headlight housings — this is one of the easiest LED swaps you'll do.
1. Pop the hood and locate the headlight housing. The back of the headlight assembly is clearly visible on both sides. No need to remove the battery or air intake.
2. Remove the dust cap. Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise and pull it off to expose the bulb.
3. Remove the old halogen bulb. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) and pull it straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector.
4. Install the LED bulb. Plug the Driveon LED bulb into the connector. Insert it into the housing and twist clockwise to lock it in. Position the LED chips at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock (horizontal) for the correct beam pattern.
5. Test before closing up. Turn on your headlights. Aim at a wall or garage door — you should see a sharp, flat cutoff line on low beam with no glare above it.
6. Repeat for the other side.
Total time: 15–20 minutes for both sides.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the Tacoma use H9 for high beam instead of 9005?
Toyota chose H9 for the Tacoma's high beam. H9 shares the same physical socket and base as H11 — our Summit and Coast H11 LED bulbs fit perfectly in the H9 high-beam socket. You just need two pairs of H11 to cover both positions.
Will LED headlights throw error codes on my Tacoma?
No. Toyotas are very LED-friendly — no flickering, no dashboard warnings. Both Summit and Coast are plug-and-play.
I have a TRD Off-Road / TRD Pro / Limited — do I have halogen or LED?
- 2016–2019 TRD Off-Road / TRD Pro / Limited → halogen (Configuration A)
- 2020–2023 TRD Off-Road / TRD Pro / Limited → factory LED (not replaceable)
- TRD Sport → halogen across all 2016–2023 years
I have a 2024+ Tacoma — can I upgrade?
No. The 4th gen (2024+) Tacoma comes with factory LED headlights across every trim, including SR and SR5. Sealed LED units, not bulb-replaceable.
Can I use the same H11 LED for low beam, high beam, AND fog lights?
Yes — that's the nice thing about the Tacoma. H11 (low), H9 (high), and H11 (fog) all share the same physical base. Three pairs of Summit or Coast H11 gives you a full perimeter LED upgrade.
Are LED headlights legal on the Tacoma?
Yes. LED replacement bulbs are legal for on-road use as long as they produce a proper beam pattern with a sharp cutoff line.
How long do LED headlights last?
Both Coast and Summit are rated for 50,000+ hours — you'll sell the Tacoma before the bulbs die.
