Best LED Headlights Toyota RAV4

Best LED Headlights for Toyota RAV4 (2013–2018): Buyer's Guide

The Toyota RAV4 is one of the best-selling compact SUVs in America — and millions of 2013–2018 RAV4s are on the road right now with dim, yellowish factory halogen headlights. Whether you're dropping the kids off before dawn, navigating a dark parking garage, or heading out on an unlit highway, those stock halogens leave a lot to be desired.

Good news: the RAV4 upgrade is simple — just note that 2013–2015 and 2016–2018 use different bulb sizes. Toyota changed the bulb setup with the 2016 refresh. Find your year below to see exactly what fits.

2019+ RAV4: factory LED across all trims. No bulb upgrade possible (sealed LED units).

How to Install LED Headlights on a Toyota RAV4

No mechanic needed. No tools required. The RAV4's headlight housings are easily accessible from the engine bay — this is one of the easiest LED swaps you'll do.

1. Pop the hood and locate the headlight housing. The back of the headlight assembly is clearly visible on both sides. No need to remove the battery or air intake.

2. Remove the dust cap. Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise and pull it off to expose the bulb.

3. Remove the old halogen bulb. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) and pull it straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Install the LED bulb. Plug the Driveon LED bulb into the connector. Insert it into the housing and twist clockwise to lock it in. Position the LED chips at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock (horizontal) for the correct beam pattern.

5. Test before closing up. Turn on your headlights. Aim at a wall or garage door — you should see a sharp, flat cutoff line on low beam with no glare above it.

6. Repeat for the other side.

Total time: 15–20 minutes for both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

My RAV4 is a 2015 — do I need 9005 or 9012?

2013, 2014, or 2015 → you need 9005 bulbs (2 pairs — one for low, one for high). 2016, 2017, or 2018 → you need 9012 (HIR2) dual-beam bulbs (just 1 pair — covers both low and high).

Why do I need two pairs of bulbs for a 2013–2015 RAV4?

The 2013–2015 RAV4 uses the same 9005 bulb type for both low beam and high beam, but they sit in separate housings — one bulb for low, one for high, on each side. That's 4 bulbs total: 2 for low beams and 2 for high beams.

Will LED headlights throw error codes on my RAV4?

No. Toyotas are very LED-friendly — they don't monitor bulb wattage the way some European or domestic trucks do. Both the Summit and Coast work as plug-and-play replacements with no flickering or dashboard warnings.

I have a 2019+ RAV4 — can I upgrade to LED?

No. Starting with the 2019 model year (5th gen), all RAV4 trims come with factory LED headlights integrated into the housing. These are sealed LED modules and not replaceable with aftermarket bulbs.

Are LED headlights legal on the RAV4?

Yes. LED replacement bulbs are legal for on-road use as long as they produce a proper beam pattern with a sharp cutoff line. Both the Summit and Coast replicate the factory halogen beam pattern.

How long do LED headlights last?

Both the Coast and Summit are rated for 50,000+ hours. At 2 hours of driving per day, that's over 68 years.

What color temperature are the LEDs?

Both series are 6000K — a crisp, cool white that matches the look of modern factory LED headlights.
