The Honda Civic is one of the most popular cars on American roads — and if you're driving a model with factory halogen headlights, you've probably noticed how underwhelming they are. Dim, yellowish, and barely adequate on dark roads.
The fix is simple: swap in LED bulbs in about 15 minutes, no tools required. Catch: the Civic has used four different halogen bulb setups across 2012–2024, plus a 2022+ hybrid setup where only the high beam can be upgraded. Find your configuration below.

Who this fits: LX, EX, EX-T, EX-L, Sport, Si (all halogen). Touring, Sport Touring, Type R are factory LED — not covered by this guide.
Identifier: 10th gen. The sweet spot — big halogen-to-LED gains on common trims. Fog light is H8 (35W), not H11 — looks similar but rated lower. Our H11 LED bulbs physically fit the H8 socket (same base) and draw far less than either halogen rating.

How to Install LED Headlights on a Honda Civic
No mechanic needed. No tools required.
1. Pop the hood and locate the headlight housing. The back of the headlight assembly is visible on both sides of the engine bay.
2. Remove the dust cap. Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise and pull it off to expose the bulb.
3. Remove the old halogen bulb. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) and pull it straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector.
4. Install the LED bulb. Plug the Driveon LED bulb into the connector. Insert it into the housing and twist clockwise to lock it in. Position the LED chips at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock (horizontal) for the correct beam pattern.
5. Test before closing up. Turn on your headlights. Aim at a wall or garage door — you should see a sharp, flat cutoff line on low beam with no glare above it.
6. Repeat for the other side.
Total time: 15–20 minutes for both sides.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Civic is a 2014 or 2015 — do I need 9006 or H11?
Depends on body style: - Sedan (4-door) → 9006 low beam (Configuration B) - Coupe (2-door) → H11 low beam (Configuration C)
Honda switched the coupe to H11 for the 2014 refresh but kept the sedan on 9006 through 2015.
Will LED headlights throw error codes on my Civic?
No. Hondas are very LED-friendly — no flickering, no dashboard warnings. The V7S has a built-in CANBUS decoder as extra insurance. The V4S works without issues on most Civics.
I have a 2016–2021 Civic Touring / Sport Touring / Type R — can I upgrade?
No. Touring (sedan/coupe), Sport Touring (hatchback), and Type R all come with factory LED headlights across every 10th gen model year. These are sealed LED units — not bulb-replaceable.
My Civic's fog lights use H8 — can I use H11 LED bulbs instead?
Yes. H8 and H11 share the same physical base and connector. H8 is rated at 35W vs H11 at 55W, but our LED draws far less than either. A Driveon Summit/Coast H11 LED works perfectly in an H8 fog socket.
I have a 2022+ Civic LX or EX — what can I upgrade?
Only the high beam (9005). LX and EX trims use a hybrid headlight: factory LED low beam (not replaceable) + halogen 9005 high beam (upgradeable). Visual clue: chrome trim surround = LX/EX (hybrid); black surround = Sport/Touring/Si/Type R (fully LED, no upgrade possible).
Are LED headlights legal on the Civic?
Yes. LED replacement bulbs are legal for on-road use as long as they produce a proper beam pattern with a sharp cutoff. Both the Summit and Coast replicate the factory halogen beam.
How long do LED headlights last?
Both Coast and Summit are rated for 50,000+ hours. At 2 hours of driving per day, that's over 68 years.
