Best LED Headlights Chevy Colorado

Best LED Headlights for Chevy Colorado (2015–2024): Buyer's Guide

The Chevy Colorado has earned a loyal following as one of the most capable mid-size trucks — whether you're running trails in a ZR2, hauling gear in a Work Truck, or just heading out for a weekend camping trip. But the factory halogen headlights leave a lot to be desired: dim, yellowish, and not enough light on dark back roads.

Simple upgrade: same H11 low / 9005 high across 2015–2024 halogen trims. Note the 2023 redesign — Z71 and ZR2 got factory LED, while WT / LT / Trail Boss kept halogen.

How to Install LED Headlights on a Chevy Colorado

No mechanic needed. No tools required. The Colorado has good engine bay access to the back of the headlight housings — this is one of the easiest LED swaps you'll do.

1. Pop the hood and locate the headlight housing. The back of the headlight assembly is clearly visible on both sides. No need to remove the battery or air intake.

2. Remove the dust cap. Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise and pull it off to expose the bulb.

3. Remove the old halogen bulb. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) and pull it straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Install the LED bulb. Plug the Driveon LED bulb into the connector. Insert it into the housing and twist clockwise to lock it in. Position the LED chips at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock (horizontal) for the correct beam pattern.

5. Test before closing up. Turn on your headlights. Aim at a wall or garage door — you should see a sharp, flat cutoff line on low beam with no glare above it.

6. Repeat for the other side.

Total time: 15–20 minutes for both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will LED headlights cause a "bulb out" warning on my Colorado?

GM trucks can sometimes detect aftermarket bulbs and trigger a warning. The V7S has a built-in CANBUS decoder to prevent this. The V4S works on most Colorados without issues; if a warning appears, a $10 decoder harness fixes it.

My Colorado is a Z71 / Trail Boss / ZR2 — can I upgrade?

  • 2015–2022 Z71 / ZR2 → Yes, halogen (Configuration A).
  • 2023–2024 Trail Boss → Yes, halogen (Configuration B).
  • 2023–2024 Z71 / ZR2 → No, factory LED (sealed, not replaceable).

Can I upgrade the fog lights on my Colorado?

2015–2022: fog lights (if equipped on LT/Z71/ZR2) use 5202 (PS24W). Not in our standard catalog — contact us for options.

2023+: most halogen trims don't ship with fog lights. Z71/ZR2 have factory LED fogs (not replaceable).

Are LED headlights legal on the Colorado?

Yes. LED replacement bulbs are legal for on-road use as long as they produce a proper beam pattern with a sharp cutoff line. Both Summit and Coast replicate the factory halogen beam.

How long do LED headlights last?

Both Coast and Summit are rated for 50,000+ hours.
