Best LED Headlights Toyota Highlander

Best LED Headlights for Toyota Highlander (2014–2019): Buyer's Guide

The Toyota Highlander is one of America's best-selling midsize SUVs — the go-to family hauler. But the 2014–2019 (3rd gen XU50) halogen headlights are one of its weakest points: dim, yellowish, and not enough light for nighttime driving.

Simple upgrade — every 3rd gen Highlander (LE / LE Plus / XLE / SE / Limited / Platinum) uses the same H11 low / 9005 high / H11 fog bulb setup. No trim-by-trim lookup, no generation quirks.

2020+ Highlander (4th gen XU70): factory LED across every trim. Not bulb-replaceable.

How to Install LED Headlights on a Toyota Highlander

No mechanic needed. No tools required. The Highlander's headlight housings are easily accessible from the engine bay — this is one of the easiest LED swaps you'll do.

1. Pop the hood and locate the headlight housing. The back of the headlight assembly is clearly visible on both sides. No need to remove the battery or air intake.

2. Remove the dust cap. Twist the round dust cap counterclockwise and pull it off to expose the bulb.

3. Remove the old halogen bulb. Twist the bulb socket counterclockwise (about a quarter turn) and pull it straight out. Disconnect the electrical connector.

4. Install the LED bulb. Plug the Driveon LED bulb into the connector. Insert it into the housing and twist clockwise to lock it in. Position the LED chips at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock (horizontal) for the correct beam pattern.

5. Test before closing up. Turn on your headlights. Aim at a wall or garage door — you should see a sharp, flat cutoff line on low beam with no glare above it.

6. Repeat for the other side.

Total time: 15–20 minutes for both sides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do all 2014–2019 Highlander trims use the same headlight bulbs?

Yes. Every trim — LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited, Platinum — uses H11 low / 9005 high / H11 fog. No trim-level variation.

Will LED headlights throw error codes on my Highlander?

No. Toyotas are very LED-friendly. Both Summit and Coast work plug-and-play without flickering or dashboard warnings.

Can I upgrade my 2020+ Highlander to brighter LEDs?

No. The 2020+ Highlander (4th gen XU70) comes with factory LED across every trim. These are sealed LED modules, not bulb-replaceable.

Can I use the same H11 LED for low beam AND fog lights?

Yes. Since the Highlander uses H11 for both positions, you can buy an extra pair of Summit or Coast H11 to upgrade your fogs to match.

Are LED headlights legal on the Highlander?

Yes. LED replacement bulbs are legal for on-road use as long as they produce a proper beam pattern with a sharp cutoff line. Both Summit and Coast replicate the factory halogen beam.

How long do LED headlights last?

Both Coast and Summit are rated for 50,000+ hours — you'll sell the Highlander before the bulbs die.
